The Best Cheese Platter
September 8, 2010
If you are planning a cheese party, or want to start serving a variety of cheeses at your next party you will need two things: cheese, and something to serve that cheese on. This sounds very simple but with the wide range of products which are available, you may have difficulty deciding what you need or know what to look for. A cheese plate can be easier to choose but is no less important than the types of cheese you are serving and it is important to choose the best cheese board .
When you are in the planning stage, the internet can be an excellent tool. It can give you ideas about what different cheese variaties taste like, and what their different qualities are. When you are planning your cheese platter ,the cheese should take center stage, but you should think about what you want to serve with the cheese.
You need a board that is large enough that the cheese variaties can be displayed so that they are not in contact with one another. You want to make sure that if you have a strongly flavored blue cheese, it is not coming into contact with a soft, mild flavored cheese. When you are looking for a cheese chopping board, consider how bit it is and visually plan the layout. If you can fit all the cheese variaties on the plate while keeping them separate, it is big enough.
The cheese should always be the central part of the cheese plate. You have a couple of different options. Cheese comes in different firmnesses and textures. You can choose to showcase a variety of cheese variaties from the same family (such as a grouping of hard cheese variaties) or you can opt to use types of cheese from each of the different varieties. If you are selecting things other than cheeses, you need to make sure that you are not detracting from the flavor of the types of cheese you have selected.
