Laptop vs. Netbook Computer

January 26, 2010

The type of computers called netbooks, seeing as they are comparatively new on the scene, currently have other labels put on them such as mini notebooks or sometimes ultraportables. The expression notebook computer being synonymous with laptop.

Netbook computers, are considered to be included in the subnotebooks category, that is a fast - developing type of undersized, lightweight, lower price tag laptop computers that’s designed for ordinary computing as well as the utilization of web-based programs (they are enabled to hook up to the world wide web wirelessly).

They’re sold more or less as supplementary devices that will augment a person’s usual computing resources. Additional depictive references can include: small, lighter weight, minimalist and cheap laptops; along with less sizeable, cheaper laptops.

Announced in the pre-winter holiday season of 2007 - as scaled-down notebook computers designed to be optimized for low weight as well as low price - netbooks left out the cd/dvd drive, made the decision to go with more compact screens and similarly keyboards, and cut back on functionality and computational very powerful.

Within the period since then, the netbook’s monitor dimensions have varied from a little bit less than five inches to a little above 10, with their weight in the single kilogram (2. 2 pounds) range.

By the middle of 2009 netbooks had become significantly more economical than the usual laptops, to the point of having even been presented as a free bonus on condition of a commitment to an Internet service plan by AT&T in Atlanta, Georgia

In the brief time period since their release, netbook computers have been growing in size and also capabilities, while at the same time notebook computers are being made lighter and smaller. In consequence, physical characteristics like their measurements and how much they weigh won’t be what can tell them apart.

As it stands now, maybe a Netbook Computer can probably be said to be a smallish, lower-powered notebook computer which has no optical drive(cd/dvd player/burner). On the other hand that will not be for too long either, thanks to the fact optical drives are being constructed ever smaller and stand to soon fit in a netbook. And computer connectivity will soon improve to the point that external media like dvd’s and blu- ray disks can easily be done without.

Given this, for now, a netbook could perhaps best be defined as a smaller, cheaper laptop computer lacking an optical disc drive.
