May 24, 2009
Your wedding reception will likely involve at least a few wedding speeches, no matter how you plan it. They are customary at a traditional wedding reception and meant to keep an eye on the newlyweds. Generally, if you are expecting speeches at your wedding reception, you need to know who and when they will be talking.
There is a wide variety in the grandness of wedding speeches, however they are always there to offer thanks, share a few short funny tales, and to give heartfelt toasts to the new couple. If you decide that th e best man should speak as it is traditional he should be the first speaker and toast both bride and bridgrooms as well as all the wedding guests.
The bride’s father usually makes a speech also, and since we currently have extended families, the bride’s father and stepfather might have something to say as well. If the groom’s parents want to speak, they should talk about what a fine person their son is and how marrying this particular girl will make him an even better man. A maid or matron of honor toast can mention topics like her relationship with the groom, a funny story about the couple and words of appreciation to the wedding party.
While the mother of a bride or groom might not often speak at a wedding reception, they can be called upon to deliver some touching thoughts which will have some guests in tears. Important tips to remember: no matter who is talking, try and keep your wedding speech to a minimum if you are aware there are other individuals who want to speak. The bride and groom, or wedding deviser ought to list the names and order of the individuals talking and their position or title in the wedding reception plan so everyone knows who is who.
